About I an I, Who We Be

In the fall of 2007 Gabe Jones and Will Lydgate met at Berklee College of Music in Matt Jenson’s Bob Marley Ensemble. As their friendship grew and deepened they saw the need for music education in the reggae world, outside of the context of a big music school. Where was Joe Higgs to those who wanted him? Where was the Alpha Boys School, teaching proper musical skill to those who craved them?

To fill this need Gabe and Will had a vision….Reggae School. It would reach the people who needed it most. Those who wanted it! Gabe and Will mentioned their idea to Roger Steffens who took it to a whole other level when he offered to teach at the school himself! Gabe and Will make it their special mission in life to play Jah’s music and spread the One Love Philosophy in a way you can see, hear, and feel. Tangible vibes!

The Reggae School Mission: We are an institution livicated to spreading the skill and vibes to play I-level Reggae music and unite people of all races and cultures in a Reggae vibration, spreading the knowledge of how to play and create authentic Reggae throughout the pacific region and elsewhere. Our aim is to distill the best of the teachings of a great music school i.e., ear training/arranging/harmony/ensembles/lessons/vocals, etc., into an easy and fun format all in a heavy Reggae groove.

We would like to see:
  • The skill and good vibes of I-Level reggae music spread to people of all races and cultures.
  • Students all over the world learning to play, record, write, and create great Reggae music.
  • Anyone with a desire to learn about how to play music has an opportunity to learn.
  • A Massive Reggae Collective in the Pacific.
  • Increased connection between V.I. and HI.
  • Great concerts, shows and tours to support the school,
  • An accepted Reggae music curriculum that we can take all over the world and use.
We here at Reggae school we believe that music can create peace and prosperity in our world. We have seen it in our own lives.

In the words of Bob Marley,
“one good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain.”

Let’s share that with as many people as we can.
