Will Lydgate
Will Lydgate began playing electric bass as a teenager in Northern California, quickly showing aptitude for the instrument, and learning technique easily and with enthusiasm. After moving to Kaua’i in 1999 he also learned to play ukelele and guitar.. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where two influences -- a lecture by Professor Danny Morris, and the Reggae albums Catch a Fire and Burnin by Bob Marley and the Wailers – led him to specialize in bass.
“The bass in reggae music,” Will observes, “is the greatest bass I have ever heard.”

Now a full-time professional bass player, Will works in all styles, from Funk to Jazz to Blues, but Reggae remains his true love. “I listened to Studio 1 for about 3 years straight” says Will

While on the West Coast, Will had the opportunity to study with drummer Bibbs Goff, father to countless Reggae Musicians. At Berklee, he linked with Professor Matt Jenson and his Bob Marley Ensemble. In Matt’s ensemble Will met the drummer Gabe Jones. Together they formed Reggae School, to fill a very real need for music education in the reggae idiom.

Will continues to play reggae music in Hawaii with local star Sashamon and the Reggae School band.
